Thanksgiving, Christmas and the New Year are fast approaching and so are the hustle, bustle and stress that accompanies the season.
For the majority of us, the Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Year holidays are a wonderful and magical time spent with family and loved ones. A season of joy, centered around communal, lavish meals and numerous social gatherings, (cue the Hallmark channel here).
I’ll just state the obvious here, a whole lot of work goes into creating the perfect holiday experience for our families and the ones we love! For some of us, the holidays can leave us feeling drained, exhausted, lonely and just plain stressed.
The holidays are stressful weather you realize it or not.
- Shopping for food, preparing the meals and presenting the perfect holiday table.
- Shopping for gifts, wrapping them and delivering them.
- Tending to family needs and accommodations.
- The lack of family and social interaction.
- The list can go on and on!
You may be saying to yourself, “yeah… and, so what? This is what I do every holiday season!” “What is your point here?”
The point I am trying to make here is, “YOU CANNOT SERVE FROM AN EMPTY VESSEL.” You know what I am referring to here, from mid-November to January 1st our physical pace picks up as we prepare for and celebrate the holiday season. All of the extra work can be a drain on our physical resources.
Weather you are rushing to create the perfect holiday or you feel depressed because you anticipate a less than perfect holiday. Take a little time for yourself. Take an occasional step back and a “time out” to care for yourself.
There are many ways to reward, treat and care for yourself. Many articles have been written and published on this topic. So… instead of re-inventing the wheel, I will include a few links to articles here, for you to peruse at your leisure.
If you are finding yourself struggling a little or a lot with the forthcoming holiday season, PLEASE take the time to research for yourself, some of the helpful “self care” suggestions presented in these articles.
